About the Author
Glenn H. Mullin is a Tibetologist, Buddhist writer, translator of classical Tibetan literature, and teacher of Tantric Buddhist meditation. He divides his time between writing, teaching, meditating, and leading tour groups to the power places of Nepal and Tibet.

Glenn lived in the Indian Himalayas between 1972 and 1984, where he studied philosophy, literature, meditation, yoga, and the enlightenment culture under 35 of the greatest living masters of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. His two principal tantric gurus were the late great masters Kyabje Ling Dorjechang and Kyabje Trijang Dorjechang, who were best known as Yongdzin Che Chung, the two main gurus of the present Dalai Lama. The list of Glenn's other teachers and initiation masters includes the Dalai Lama, Sakya Trizin Rinpoche, Kalu Rinpoche, Ngakpa Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche, Tai Situ Rinpoche, Khenchen Konchok Gyaltsen, Geshe Ngawang Dargyey, Geshey Rabten, and Gongsar Tulku. Glenn has worked as author, editor, and translator on nearly 25 books on Tibetan Buddhism, many of which focus on the lives and works of the early Dalai Lamas. He has also worked as a field specialist on three Tibet-related films and five television documentaries, has co-produced five audio recordings of Tibetan sacred music, and served as tour guide on the recent DVD The Sacred Sites of the Dalai Lamas.

After returning from India in 1984 Glenn founded and directed The Mystical Arts of Tibet, an association of Dharma friends that was instrumental in bringing the first tours of Tibetan monks to North America, to perform sacred temple music and dance, and to create mandala sand paintings. 4.5 starsIn "Moneyball," Mr. Lewis wrote about how the super small market Oakland Athletics engaged in the study of market inefficiencies so that they could find undervalued players. One of the key points in the book was how generations of professional scouts and management types made mental misevaluations of players based on their height, weight, looks, and/or unorthodox attributes/skills. It's an excellent look into the information and management revolutions that swept through baseball that led to great teams for the cash-strapped A's, multiple titles for the Red Sox, and an incredible build in Tampa. A harsh reviewer wrote that the book was interesting, but that Lewis was writing about mental mistakes that humans (and experts) make on a regular basis -- and that these mistakes were written about by two Israeli psychologists named Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman. Mr, Lewis is self-assured enough to admit that he had never heard of them before.He spent the next several years learning about them. In addition to their brilliant work, they also have (a) great back stories and (b) a fascinating relationship where despite being married with children, their brains were more attuned and in-sync with each other than anyone else. Mr. Lewis covers all of this in a book that is interesting and an extremely easy read.For a more in-depth look at Tversky and Kahneman's work, one must read Kahneman's "Thinking Fast and Slow," which was published in 2011. It doesn't read as well as Lewis, but the dive into prospect choice theory, hindsight bias and a host of other mental mistakes that these brilliant men identified and named is incredible.

I tend to get excited when the best story tellers write a new book, and when the book covers a topic I have been focused on recently this is even more so. Such was the case when Lewis covered the Nobel Prize winning duo of Daniel (Danny) Kahneman and Amos Tversky, two psychologists who developed much of the base work behind behavioral finance. I also see its roots in Robert Cialdini’s books (Influence, Pre-suasion). While Kahneman (Tversky died in 1996 so did not share in the Nobel) wrote Thinking Fast and Slow to share their life work, here Lewis tries to identify why they worked so well together. In fact I don’t recall him talking about thinking fast (immediate response) or slow (long-term investor) at all. It reads somewhere between biography and non-fiction about behavioral finance.Some of the more interesting thoughts in the book have nothing to do with behavioral finance, but have lots to do with psychology. Lewis discusses Daryl Morey, who I would call a basketball sabermatrician. He has been GM for the Houston Rockets since 2007 using tactics similar to those described for baseball in the book Moneyball (also by Lewis). In this same chapter Lewis provides a definition of a nerd – a person who knows his own mind well enough to mistrust it. This sounds like something Charlie Munger would say (high praise).Both Kahneman and Tversky lived in Israel, where everyone serves a stint in the military, and both saw action in the Six Day War in 1967 and the Yom Kippur War in 1973 (when they returned from America to take up arms). Kahneman helped the Israelis design better tools for selecting officers and training pilots. Tversky was a paratrooper. Both were professors at Hebrew University at the beginning of the first war.Our mind tricks us. After the fact, we know exactly why we saw the event coming that no one anticipated (see Taleb’s Black Swan) and surveys weigh more heavily toward events that have recently occurred. The reasons often given relate back to our days as prey on the plains of Africa (thinking fast keeps you alive in that context – you run away from a predator, as fast as you can). One of the ways to catch these inconsistencies is to devise three options, where a person chooses A over B, B over C, and C over A. This violates the law of transitivity, familiar to anyone who has ever studied algebra or logic. Lewis provides many of these examples, as did Kahneman in Thinking Fast and Slow, and I fall for nearly every one. Even after I’ve seen them before (sometimes, occasionally, I remember).K/T developed several heuristics, where laws of chance are replaced by rules of thumb. “We often decide that an outcome is extremely unlikely, or impossible, because we are unable to imagine any chain of events that could cause it to occur. The defect, often, is in our imagination.”• Representativeness – we see a previously developed mental model rather than thinking through the facts as presented (and are generally correct). This creates systematic errors, such as looking at a kid and immediately deciding whether they are athletic. Looking at the negative can help avoid these problems. For example, the WW2 bombs landing in London appeared to target certain areas, but really were random. If you have 23 randomly selected people in a room, the odds are better than half that at least two share a birthday.• Availability – we more easily recall memorable events.• Conditionality – we make contingent assumptions when none are stated. We assume normal operating conditions (e.g., normal distribution, VaR). “…people don’t know what they don’t know, but that they don’t bother to factor their ignorance into their judgments.”• Anchoring (and adjustment) – if you are shown a large (or small) number, for example, then your response is then large (or small).• Simulation – what could happen dominates what is likely to happen – this can lead to analysis paralysis (I find it difficult to overcome this when investing for my personal accounts – it’s hard to pull the trigger).• Recency bias – recent events influence our probability assumptions.• Hindsight bias - once we know how something turns out, our recollection is that we predicted it in advance (similar to Black Swans – Taleb)How do ideas form in our mind? A very believable account too. The research done by Michael Lewis really shows. He’s had phenomenal access too, it seems.And yet, the book does not hang together terribly well. Chapters 1 and 8 should not have made it into the book, they ought to have been relegated to the pages of Vanity Fair, where the author regularly provides fantastic material.More to the point, what we have here is a bunch of chapters that, chronological order notwithstanding, do not constitute a book. The incredible material, the wonderful expositions, the deep insights are all present and correct, but they fail to meld into a narrative. Even the title of the book, much as it has its roots in the work of Tversky and Kahneman, does not do justice to their contribution.It really pains me to say this, especially because the author’s previous effort, “Flash Boys,” was a genuine five-star book. Perhaps that’s the problem. Maybe if I was reading this straight off of “Boomerang” I’d have found it great. As it stands, I’m not sure I could recommend it to the general public.If, on the other hand, you have the remotest interest in Behavioral Economics, you genuinely can’t not read “The Undoing Project” and you are guaranteed to enjoy it.

As I poured myself a glass of wine, I let the earlier chapters linger. As a happily married woman, I have no need for Tactics, but as I sat back down to read, I found out that I was being naïve. By the time I finished the chapters on flirting, phone sex, and asking for gifts in the proper way, I was on my second glass of wine and thinking of trying these things on my husband (just a smudge) to see if it would net a better birthday gift this year. The second part of the book builds on the first twelve chapters and signals an advanced stage where those women who don t mind going the extra mile sexually can master things like online dating and my personal favorite, The Kardashian Effect. Through it all, the author G.L. Lambert makes this a highly entertaining read even for us non-Hos, with his pop-culture infused sense of humor and sleek use of analogies that helped even a non-hip woman such as me keep up with the steps. My only negative take away was that, while it does preach about the ills of this lifestyle, it does serve it up as a huge temptation. The chapter on going from Ho to Housewife I fear could influence younger women to take up this charge. With that said, I did learn something, which in itself blew away my expectations (while putting a smile on my husband's face). I highly recommend Ho Tactics, but only to those women over 21 years of age, I figure that you should be of drinking age before you come of Hoing age. --Urban League Digest

Ok heres the thing at first i LOVED this book. i felt like i was holding Gold in my hands. my new bible. But then the author suggests to women lying about sexual trauma as a tactic to avoid having to have sex. Please girls NEVER lie about that. if that wasnt in the book i would give it a 5 star rating hands down. But maybe since the author is a man he doesn't understand the ramification of women lying about this. It is very hard for women who have been raped and molested to be taking seriously much of the time. Even though a TINY percentage of women who report these to police it end up being fake. but to lie about that to anyone a trick a friend a sugar ANYONE is just not ok, and makes it harder for women who have been and have these issues to be taken seriously. I am really dispointed anyone would give that advice to girls no matter what thier objective is. The rest of the boo is Gold thats why i gave it two stars and not one. but that is a REALLLYYYYYY big bad red flag no no do NOT do ever!!!

Excellent read. Really gives "good girls" a clue as to why they are not being chosen for dating as well as long term relationships. Perfect read for a woman having trouble in the dating arena. Perfect read for someone who may be in a stale marriage looking for answers. A must read for any woman who has been cheated on. The audio book version is the most compelling. The narrator's voice really makes the content come alive. It may be a hard pill to swallow for some women who have been raised with a different value system but society shows us that this information is tested and proven. If you are not winning after reading this you're just stubborn.

This book was a gift to my younger friend who is unlucky in love and relationships. Plus looking for someone to spoil her a bit. I read it before giving it to her. It is hilarious and it did actually have some decent if not already common knowledge advice/tips. Do not let the title deter you. Some of the advice for NOT giving a man some cookies pie and cake are funny - some terrifying: don't lie about a trauma - horrible advice. Otherwise it is a worthy read.*4.5 stars*

I loved this book. Although I don't plan on using any of these in the hopes of finding myself a trick, treat, or sponsor, the information in the book really helped me with becoming fully confident with myself. After all, if a woman can pull these mind games and acts on a man, why can't I pull these on regular people I interact with on a day to day basis? That is, just being fun, portraying myself as the "ideal girl" (whatever that is depending on who I am around), and wholly loving myself?Now, I don't want to say that after I read half way into this book, my life changed - because that's not how it happened. I had to actually do things and be active for anything to happen, of course. I'm saying this because it's easy to read or absorb knowledge and think the work is done. No. I had to begin to breathe, eat, and live the Ho Tactics.As for the book, it does give a lot of insight on how a "ho" functions, and it's pretty amazing. After reading this book, I no longer view the word "ho" as an insult (although I know it can be one). In the scenarios the book uses, a ho is a pretty damn admirable woman who uses what she has to get herself further in life, or just the things she simply wants. It also taught me a lot about men (not to say that everything in the book is completely true and applicable to every single man on planet Earth): about how they may think, feel, and act around unwaveringly confident women who aren't afraid to be sexual.Simply put, I think women should read this book. If you aren't going to use these to find yourself a sponsor or trick, that's OK. Be like me, read this book, and let it encourage you to become the unapologetically confident woman you can be.

Pretty good book. I've applied many of these 'tactics' within my relationship and business. My only critique is that this is the kind of book that will help you reel in big fish. Keeping them on the line is an entirely different topic. But if you want something that'll teach you how to fish, this is it. The tactics are good. But they're shortsighted. It's also difficult to transition a relationship built on ho tactics into something real and substantial. This is a great resource if you're not looking for a long-term deal, or if you're a side chick, booty call, etc. Decent book overall.

Ah, the psychology of being just another eBay B*tch. He breaks it down, and he keeps it real. Ladies, if you're co-dependent? Keep this reference close to you, maybe keep a copy in your nightstand drawer. I don't want to wind up like Bridget Jones, eating ice cream, and crying myself to sleep over someone who doesn't care for me back. The book is not at all like the title seems, but this is big girl panties and basic self-respect tutorial.
